CAJON

CAJON

Are you looking forward to becoming a professional percussionist? Cajon means box (Caja) or drawer (Cajon) in Spanish. Legend has it that 18thCentury enslaved Africans in Peru created the first Cajon. These enslaved people brought with them their rich drums and percussion tradition. It is a practical instrument; anyone with our guidance can quickly learn to play this unique African instrument!

MARIMBA

MARIMBA

Marimba is a long wooden keyboard Percussion instrument with a large resonator of African and Latin American origin. It is regionally termed African Mbira. It sounds like Xylophone but a lot softer and warmer sounding and usually played by three musicians. It is comparatively hard to play but learning to play one is well worth it! We can teach you to play this extravagant African musical instrument while you are having fun!

XYLOPHONE

XYLOPHONE

We love the precious, sharply accentuated sound of the Xylophone.
The Xylophone is made of bits of wood that are tuned to different notes. You have to play it with
sticks, or beaters, to hit the wooden bars, sometimes as many as six at a time. It makes sharp, ticking and rattling sounds with low resonance. With our guidance, playing the Xylophone can be a fun, energizing experience and easy to learn.

MBIRA

MBIRA

Excited to learn traditional Zimbabwean Mbira?
The mbira of the Zezuru group of the Shona people of Zimbabwe consists of 22 to 28 metal
keys mounted on a Gwariva (hardwood soundboard) made from the Mubvamaropa tree
(Pterocarpus angolensis). Although the metal keys were originally smelted directly from rock containing iron ore, now they may be made from sofa springs, bicycle spokes, car seat springs, and other recycled steel materials. Mabira has an unique tone known as inharmonic that you will love when you learn to play.

TAMBOUR

TAMBOUR

Want to learn French Drums, anyone? Tambour has a more distinctive tone than other typical instruments. It was popular in western European regimental and marching bands a few centuries ago. The world loved Tambur because of its booming and ringing quality like a drum. We have specially picked to teach you the tambour to cherish the age-old musical instrument in the present day.

DJEMBE

DJEMBE

The Percussion family traditionally played this goblet-shaped drum. This instrument is, to date, the most popular African drum to be played around the world. There are three fundamental ways to strike the drum; once you master the strokes, it is effortless to learn to play Djembe! We will teach you more progressively intricate and impressive percussion patterns in your Djembe classes.

CONGAS

CONGAS

Want to be a 'conguero' artist? A person who plays Conga is called a "conguero."Once you learn to play Conga, you can play all day long and still have fun! The Conga is a tall, narrow, single-headed Cuban drum of African origin, probably derived from the Congolese Makuta drums or Sikulu drums commonly played in Mbanza Ngungu, Congo. We will teach you how to tap and experiment with the sound of Conga like a pro!

GANZÁS

GANZÁS

Did you know ganza is a Brazilian cylindrical rattle used as a percussion instrument, used mainly in samba and bossa nova music? A long shaker with little shells, beads, or seeds is also known as “xique-xique” because of its sound. It makes a sharp, loud noise when shaken. It is great fun playing this instrument, regardless of age or ability! Join the classes; we will teach you to play Ganza in a rhythm like a professional in a band!

TAPPING STICKS

TAPPING STICKS

Wonder how musicians play a pair of a plain wooden sticks in rhythm? Learning to play tapping sticks can be great fun! It is by far the most popular African instrument to be played outside of Africa. You will basically have to tap two notched sticks in rhythm by grabbing them like a motorbike handle. It is simple to learn and can experiment with different forms and styles.
